About the webinar

Most of us were trained to help people solve problems. And often, that works. But for anyone who has sat with clients caught in deeply entrenched conflict — where the real issue seems to live somewhere beneath the presenting dispute — it can feel like problem solving is only ever skimming the surface. In this webinar, Jacinta Gallant introduces the Insight Approach to Conflict and Mediation, described as the “fourth pillar” of conflict resolution, and explores why a learning lens changes everything.

Rather than approaching conflict as something to be contained, managed, or resolved through agreement, Insight Mediation begins with a definition of conflict that actually makes sense for the relational work practitioners do every day. It asks not just what people want, but how and why they are behaving the way they are — and it equips practitioners with skills to help clients gain their own insights, so that real dialogue and genuine decision-making become possible. For family lawyers, mediators, collaborative practitioners, and anyone working in the space where conflict and human behaviour intersect, this webinar offers both a reframe and a relief: when you understand what is driving the conflict, you can ask more, tell less, and work with far greater confidence and calm.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this webinar, participants will be able to:
  • Explain the core principles of Insight Mediation and how it differs from problem-solving and interest-based approaches
  • Apply a learning lens to conflict, shifting from containment and avoidance toward genuine curiosity about the “how” and “why” of conflict behaviours
  • Recognise the patterns of conflict behaviour that typically get in the way of productive dialogue, and understand what those behaviours signal
  • Use targeted curiosity and insight-based questioning to help clients move toward their own understanding, rather than directing them toward predetermined outcomes
  • Identify where their current practice may default to telling or problem-solving, and articulate how the Insight Approach might open up new possibilities
  • Connect the Insight framework to their specific practice context, whether in mediation, collaborative law, family dispute resolution, or conflict coaching

About your trainers

Jacinta Gallant is a respected Canadian collaborative lawyer, mediator and educator, recognized for her insightful and experiential approach to teaching mediation and conflict resolution. She has been welcomed as a trainer throughout the world. Jacinta’s ultimate goal is to help practitioners engage with clients in a more meaningful way, manage conflict more effectively, and get more enjoyment out of this important work.
Jacinta took time out in 2017 to study conflict because she was disheartened with the dominant negotiating model that just didn’t fit relational conflict.  That’s when she learned about Insight Mediation, and committed to a rigorous mentoring program with the founder, Dr. Cheryl Picard.  It changed her life – at work and at home – and led her to develop The Curious Mediation training program, along with insightful client preparation tools.
