Advanced Mediation Practicum

This intensive program brings together experienced mediators and dispute resolution practitioners for deep engagement with the complexities of real-world practice. Through guided case analysis, peer dialogue and structured reflection, you'll refine your approach and build confidence in navigating challenging mediations. Successful completion of the course and assessment qualifies you to apply for AMDRAS Advanced Mediation Accreditation (Level 2).

NOTE: You must have been accredited for at least 4 years to obtain the Advanced Mediation Status, but our course is open to anyone who wants to enhance their knowledge and practice.

Program Learning Objectives

Aligned with AMDRAS Practicum Certificate requirements, this program will develop your capacity to:

Identify

practice obstacles and challenges in mediation, and develop strategies for overcoming them

Demonstrate

advanced understanding of the purpose, techniques, and skills required for each stage of the mediation process

Apply

socio-cultural awareness when mediating with diverse communities, including culturally and linguistically diverse populations and Indigenous Australians

Develop

the characteristics of a mindful and reflective mediator, including ethical awareness and professional artistry

We offer multiple delivery options to accommodate different schedules and learning preferences. All formats provide the same high-quality content and meet AMDRAS requirements for at least 75% live, synchronous participation.

Two-Day Online Intensive​

Immerse yourself in two consecutive days of focused learning. Sessions run 9am to 4pm (including a one-hour lunch break).

Dr Judith Rafferty

Judith is a conflict resolution trainer, practitioner, and researcher. She has extensive experience developing and delivering conflict management training across Australia and internationally. She has worked with vulnerable populations in conflict and post-conflict settings, bringing evidence-based insights into practical, accessible training for diverse professional and community context.

Dr Claire Holland

Claire is a dispute resolution specialist with a background spanning workplace, commercial, and community mediation. Her research focuses on reflective practice and the development of mediator expertise. Claire is known for her engaging facilitation style and her ability to translate complex theoretical concepts into practical insights for practitioners.

Dr Samantha Hardy

Samantha is the founder of Conflict Management Australia and an internationally recognised expert in conflict coaching and mediation training. With over two decades of experience, she has trained thousands of mediators and conflict resolution professionals. Samantha brings particular expertise in advanced mediation theory and the integration of coaching approaches into mediation practice.

Sarah Blake

Sarah is an experienced mediator and trainer with particular strengths in workplace mediation and organisational conflict. Her practical, grounded approach to teaching draws on years of frontline mediation experience across multiple sectors. Sarah co-facilitates the Adelaide face-to-face intensive.

Program Requirements

To complete the Practicum Certificate, participants will:

Present a 30-minute case study

(individually or in small groups) drawn from your own practice. The case study should address the Professional Attributes, identify a challenge encountered, and explore how it could have been handled differently. Presentations may include role plays, exercises, or simulations.

Submit an 800 to 1000 word written case study discussion

within seven days of your presentation. CMA provides a template outlining the required components. Assessment is marked satisfactory/not satisfactory.
