We don’t have a textbook approach to what a Mediator’s role should be, if any, once a session formally concludes and we know that we all bring different approaches.\nThis session explores the concept of mediation ‘aftercare’ – not as an add-on or optional part of the process, but as a critical (and often overlooked) dimension of practice.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe will consider:\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhether, when and how Mediator’s follow up\nThe role of check-ins and debriefing with parties, referrers, or both\nWhat shifts when a mediation has gone well… or not so well\nEthical considerations, boundaries and Mediator responsibility\nHow aftercare can support implementation, accountability and early re-engagement\n\n\n\n\nAbout your trainer\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRikki Mawad is a restorative engagement practitioner, mediator, executive coach and facilitator specialising in complex, high-stakes conflict.\nWith nearly two decades of experience across government, private sector, boards and community settings, she is known for working in situations where conflict is layered, emotionally charged and resistant to straightforward resolution. Her work focuses on helping people move beyond agreement to address impact, accountability and outcomes that hold over time.\nRikki works across prevention, response and recovery – to support the resolution of complex matters, the repair of relationships where trust has eroded, and the development of leadership and systems that reduce the likelihood of recurrence. She also designs and delivers leadership, conflict capability and culture initiatives, and advises boards and executive teams on building more conflict-capable organisations.\nHer approach is grounded, practical and highly relational, anchored in her strong belief in courageous compassion, justice and kindness.
